Feng Shui: How Indoor Plants Benefit Us

As we approach Autumn and retreat indoors, our exposure to fresh air decreases. Maybe you're wondering how to improve indoor air quality for your home or place of business. Well, plants are an important key! They not only look beautiful and perk up a place, but they also improve the energy and air quality within a space. Here are some reasons why.

First, you may have heard about Electromagnetic Frequencies (EMFs). They include electronic fields that stem from natural sources (e.g.: thunderstorms or the Earth's magnetic field), and man-made devises (e.g.: microwave ovens or cell phone towers). EMFs can overwhelm a space and create an imbalance and unnatural flow of energy.

The art of Feng Shui uses energy to harmonize individuals with their spaces and to create healthier environments within these spaces. When the energy is in excess, perhaps due to EMFs, plants have a unique ability to absorb their electronic radiation. Those who report side-effects due to high EMF readings can benefit from the inclusion of plants within their home or place of business. Placing plants nearby major electronics, like televisions and computers, help to reduce their EMFs emissions and improve the quality of your space.

Second, conventional buildings are constructed and decorated with a lot of synthetic products that can emit not so healthy chemicals into the air. Without open windows, we breathe in and absorb a lot more of these chemicals during the colder months. Being excellent natural natural filters, plants help clean our air and reduce our exposure to harmful chemicals. As a result, you may see benefits including improved overall health and immune function, better sleep and reduced fatigue.

Lastly, those who enjoy a walk in the woods, may attest that plants can calm us. In a world of increasing stress, from inflation to heightening global affairs, including elements within the home that help balance and reduce stress is important. Houseplants come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. Find some that resonate with you and place it in a spot you pass by everyday (keeping in mind sun exposure needs of the plant). Indoor plants can be easily purchased, from a garden centre to your grocery store or hardware store. If you are considering buying a plant and have pets, be sure to research and find pet-friendly options!
